Artist Statement

I AM GOING TO HEAL YOU OF YOUR EPILEPSY, BUT IT’S GOING TO BE A LONG, HARD ROAD
LA, 2026

These are the words the LORD spoke to me on January 19, 2020—before I had any idea brain surgery was ahead.

Ten days later, after eight major seizures and a three-day EEG hospitalization, I was told I was eligible for epilepsy brain surgery. Nearly two years later, in January 2022, I began SEEG. What followed was four separate surgical procedures, including a resuscitation, stretching from January through October. COVID repeatedly delayed each stage, turning what should have been a three- to four-month process into nearly a year.

In October 2024, exactly 24 months after my final procedure, I was told the surgery was considered “not successful.” It was devastating. I had a failed brain surgery.

And I believe the LORD is not yet through with me.

I created these collages at St. Walburga Shrine in Northern Colorado in January 2026. I brought only scissors and glue sticks and worked entirely with materials I found there. Rather than arriving with my own source material, I allowed the place itself to become the inspiration—a practice I hope to continue.

2026 marks ten years of my participation in HTP, Art of Epilepsy, and twelve years of living with epilepsy.
