Artist Statement

I am finding my son’s diagnosis of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a severe seizure disorder, sneaking into my artwork lately. Sort of against my will. Painting and running were supposed to be my escapes from it all. But it’s all been so very disruptive, it’s got our family not knowing whether we are coming or going most of the time. So, if that is where I find myself at the moment; I will just paint the epilepsy even if I don’t want to. Even when the answers don’t match the questions. Even when I can’t run anywhere, especially away. Even when the finish lines are moving faster than my feet. But we keep on. If we are going in the wrong direction, we have a lot of people who love our family enough to let us know. It’s in the deepest struggles we discover we are the most blessed.
