Artist Statement
I am an Indian artist currently living in Malaysia. I have lived in different countries while growing up, but wherever I have been, art has always been part of my life. Before I started painting, I loved making things with my hands, like quilling, Rainbow Loom, and other crafts. In high school, I realized that painting was what I wanted to do.
I am inspired by Indian culture, spirituality, and traditional Indian folk art. I love Kerala mural art, Madhubani, Pichwai, mandalas, and dot art because they are colorful, detailed, and peaceful. Making mandalas and patterns helps me feel calm. I also like that they don’t have to be perfect. Even if I make a small mistake, it becomes part of the design. That has taught me that imperfections can still be beautiful.
I am autistic, and I also live with epilepsy. I had my first seizure when I was 15. These are things that people cannot always see when they look at me. Sometimes life can be challenging, but art gives me a place to feel calm, focused, and happy.
When I heard the title “Hidden Truths”, I felt it described epilepsy very well. Most people can’t tell that someone has epilepsy just by looking at them. They don’t see the worries, the challenges, or the strength it takes to keep going. Through my paintings, I hope people will look a little deeper and remember that everyone has a story we cannot always see.
I hope my art brings people a little more understanding, kindness, and hope.
