Artist Statement

Having had epilepsy for 27 years of my life has shaped me to have awareness and guidance. Now, having a successful Awake Removal of Epileptogenic Brain Tissue surgery that ended seizures marks the end of that 27-year chapter while preserving it as part of my history. New goals, clear thinking, and a voice have led me to great opportunities in this new normal.

“Archive Brain Scar Tissue” is how I imagined it looked, shown as an MRI Scan. It looked like white matter, decaying tissue being captive.

The ring, “The Scar Bloom,” is an emerging texture clustering together that glows like an Amethyst gem of 27 years of epilepsy history. The gem defines strength and clarity.
