Artist Statement

I used to have seizures in the middle of the night. They would wake me up, and I would immediately go into full-body convulsions. I couldn’t breathe, and I would go unconscious. I can still remember the imagery, terror, and disarray the seizures would evoke. In the last few years, I have experimented with lucid dreaming techniques. My recent artwork is from the stories and symbolic imagery the dreams reveal to me.

I was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 13 – a challenge I embrace and expose. I use art to tap into the expanse of my subconscious and dream awareness. Each piece expresses dimension and movement, and I imagine the work traveling from a dream to a waking state.
